Handling
At pickup or drop off (when possible), it is policy to look over the order to make sure everything is correct (details, spellings, etc). Minor corrections can be made at pickup. This process is considered acceptance of the product and no refunds will be issued in regards to the appearance afterwards.
Fondant may contain skewers, toothpicks, wires and/or supports. Please note placement of these items and remove them before cutting / serving. All tiered cakes have wooden and or plastic dowels as well. Some decorative elements (dragee’s, flowers, etc.) are not edible and should be removed before serving. Sugar Wrought is not responsible for any injuries / damages sustained as a result of these items not being removed.
Carry your cake with both hands under the center of the board to keep it level and supported. Carrying by the sides of the board or box can cause the fondant/icing/board to bend, flex, and/or crack.
Transporting
Pittsburgh streets are NOT delivery friendly. Please use the following precautions.
It is best to transport your cake on a flat, level surface of a floorboard or in the back of a van, SUV, or hatchback. Seats and laps are not level and thus highly discouraged. Trunks are also discouraged due to potential heat.
On warm days it is imperative that the vehicle have air conditioning and be cool once the cake is picked up. Prolonged exposure to heat can cause the icing to melt and cakes to slide or fall.
Remove any loose objects that can slide, roll, or fall into the cake.
DRIVE SLOWLY. Use caution when stopping and starting, turning corners, and on the Pittsburgh hills. Sudden changes in speed or direction can affect the solidity of the cake and cause shifting or falling.
Storage / Displaying
It is recommended to keep cakes refrigerated until at least 1 hour before the event start.
Cakes should be displayed on a level surface away from direct sunlight and/or heat. All icings and decorations are very susceptible to heat, moisture, and weather. Prolonged exposure to these elements can cause cracking, melting, condensation, etc and can weaken the structure of the cake.
Outdoor settings are unpredictable and Sugar Wrought is not responsible for damages cause by weather and/or improper display.
Once your cake has been picked up or delivered by Sugar Wrought to your event, Sugar Wrought’s ownership will end.
Sugar Wrought is not responsible for any damages that may occur due to improper handling, transportation, or display of cakes. Additionally, Sugar Wrought is not responsible for correcting said damage or issuing refunds once our ownership ends.
